A Young Lady Triumphs Over Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Therapy For Her Irresponsible Drinking, And Enhances Her Self Worth
Emily was a forty-four-year-old bookkeeper who was fed up with feeling depressed on a daily basis and sick of her careless and abusive drinking behavior. Stated briefly, she was sick of feeling tired every morning, she was angry with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a valueless habit, she was tired of going through failed relationship after failed relationship because of her irresponsible drinking, she missed her old drive for doing various things she enjoyed, and she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis.
In addition to the perceptible alcohol-related health problems she now experienced, possibly the nastiest part of her drinking behavior was the undependable and devious person she had become. In her heart she knew that she had been less than truthful about her drinking behavior to her friends, family, and relatives and she also knew she had been deceitful with herself about the "healthy" consequences of drinking. Not only this but she justified wolfing down two or three drinks before going to social events and she also justified needing one or two drinks as soon as she awakened so that she could deal with the "anxiety" at her place of employment. Simply put, Emily got to a time in her life when she finally realized that she hit rock bottom and was now ready to start the slow and gradual path that leads to recovery.
One of the primary ways that Emily put her "plan" into action was by asking for a transfer at her workplace. When her request was granted, she moved 700 miles away to a new location. If nothing else, this without a doubt made making new friends and pals and separating herself from her old friends and pals easier. Then she contacted a healthcare professional in her new town and scheduled an appointment for a thorough physical exam.
After meeting with the doctor and taking numerous laboratory tests, it was determined that Emily had made the transition from alcohol abuse to dependency on alcohol and consequently, was in need of alcohol detox and alcohol therapy. At this time, her healthcare practitioner made it a point to articulate the various alcoholic symptoms and the typical symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to taking a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, the doctor also told Emily that it was decided that she was clinically depressed and in need of counseling for her medical issue.
Due to her eagerness to follow through with the treatment program, after eleven weeks of inpatient rehab, Emily was ready to start therapy on an outpatient basis. At this point in time, she began working at her new job and over a period of a few weeks began fortifying her body by exercising, drinking filtered water, eating healthy foods, living an alcohol-free way of life, and taking vitamins and minerals.
After nearly ten weeks of outpatient therapy during which time she never experienced an alcohol relapse, Emily quit going to alcohol rehabilitation and instead began going three times per week to local AA meetings. Going to these meetings helped Emily follow through with her alcohol-free style of life, they provided her with the support she wanted, and they served as a faithful reminder of the damaging consequences that are associated with excessive and careless drinking. Compared with her life just a few short months ago, life was now rewarding and loaded with possibilities that she could have never longed for or brought to fruition while while she was engaged in abusive drinking behavior.
